Justin Kauflin of Virginia Beach, Virginia, has an improvisational zeal matched by a technique that is equal parts lyrical and emotional. Justin, who is blind, has played in Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola at Jazz at Lincoln Center, New York City; the Blue Note and Village Vanguard in New York City with Clark Terry; Blues Alley in Washington, D.C.; and the American Theatre in Hampton, Virginia, with Jae Sinnett. One Breath Is an Ocean for a Wooden Heart and Whirligig
Lisa Bufano, Sonsherée Giles, and Jerry Smith perform a new work, originally commissioned by AXIS Dance Company and Alliger Arts, with music created and performed by Jerry Smith. One Breath Is an Ocean for a Wooden Heart is a modern dance duet between one dancer with a disability and one dancer without, which continues to examine the relationship between physical transformation and identity. Whirligig is what happens when the illusion is shed. Thematically linked to the music of early America, the irregular partnership regenerates in a revealed and essential form. Whirligig is performed by Lisa Bufano and Sonsherée Giles, with guest artist Justinian Morton.
